How to Increase Website Traffic?

Written by Akash Navi

Traffic, there is no doubt that we all hate traffic in the real world! We don’t want to get stuck in traffic if we are traveling somewhere.

But the scenario is completely different and opposite in the online world. The thing which we love the most here is the website traffic. Every blogger, owner of an e-commerce website and online entrepreneur love this the most and always try to increase website traffic.

And this is quite obvious too. Because if there is no traffic to the website then there are no earning. If you are a blogger who has monetized their website with Google AdSense then you will not earn a single dollar if you don’t get traffic.

In case you are doing affiliate marketing or selling your own product then there well be no sales.

And finally, there will be no earnings.

Then what should you do now?

You can increase the web traffic you are getting on your website and get it going. In this guide, I have mentioned some of the techniques by using which you can increase website traffic.

There are a number of ways by which you can drive targetted traffic to your website. You should keep one thing in mind and that is not all traffic is equal.

If you are not getting targetted traffic to your website then you will not earn much out of it. You will just see the traffic in the Google Analytics and nothing else.

So you should always try to get more and more targetted traffic to your website.

What Are The Types of Traffic You Can Get?

There are different types of traffic which you can drive to your website. And the different types about which I am talking about are organic traffic, referral traffic, social traffic.

But what are these and what is the difference between them? Let’s find it out.

Organic Traffic: This is the traffic which you get from the search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing. If your content ranks on these search engines then you will get a good amount of traffic for free. There is no need to pay anything to get organic traffic to your website.

Social Traffic: This is the traffic which you get from the social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc. Whenever you post on Facebook and someone follows that link you will get this kind of traffic to your website.

Referral Traffic: When someone comes to your website from other websites then you will get referral traffic. Let me make it simple for you.

Now assume that you someone in your niche has linked to your content. And the visitor of his or her blog who has linked to you will visit your blog by using the link to your website. Then that traffic will be counted as referral traffic.

On Which Traffic Should You Focus?

I am sure that you have got this question in your mind after reading about these three kinds of traffic.

What do you think? On which traffic you should focus?

You should always keep your primary focus on organic traffic. Because it is free traffic which you get from the search engines.

And the main thing in any field of business is to earn more with fewer spendings. If you rank high in search engines then you will get a good amount of traffic for free and make money with it.

I am not telling that you should set all your focus on organic traffic and ignore the other traffic. But yes you should be focused on this free source of traffic for your website.

There are many things in which you have to focus to increase website traffic which you can read in the further part of this guide.

Ways to Increase Website Traffic

increase website traffic

So now let us get started with this guide and check out the ways by which you can increase website traffic you are getting.

Perform Proper Keyword Research and Increase Website Traffic

I have already mentioned in the previous part of this guide that you should be more focused on the organic traffic. And keyword research is the most basic thing from where you should start.

If you want to get a good amount of organic traffic then you should find out the keywords which are being used by the people.

When you target a wrong keyword which is not used by the people to search on the internet. Then what will you get?

You end up wasting the time you have invested in creating the content. Even if your content ranks in the first place in SERP you will not get a good amount of traffic.

And this is why you should perform keyword research before you start creating your content.

If you don’t know how you can perform keyword research then let me tell give you one example and explain to you how you can do it for the next article you will write for your website.

I will show you how you can carry out keyword research for your next article with the help of Keyword Planner by Google.

So the first thing you have to do is open the Keyword Planner you can follow this link to open the Keyword Planner. You will be asked to sign in into your Google account do that.

Once you open the Keyword Planner, click on “Search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category.”

After that, you have to enter the event in the “Your Product or Sevice” section.

Let me give you an example of how you can perform keyword research and find keywords to target.

Enter the blogging subject

I will enter Holi in the “your Product or Service section” and click on Get Ideas button below.

Once you click on the Get Ideas button you will get the list of keywords which are searched. Check out the screenshot below in which I have shared the results I have got.

Keyword Research ResultsNow as you can see the keyword ideas which I have got in the Keyword Planner. And look at the monthly searches, this is the data which is collected by the Google.

Basically, this data is for the AdWords advertisers who are willing to place the ads. But we can use it to check out the search volume of any keyword or phrase.

List the keywords with the highest searches by clicking on the Avg. Monthly Searches.

The keyword Happy Holi has searches between 100k to 1M. We use these keywords and create some long tail keywords. Set those long tail keywords as the Focus Keyword while building the content.

You have to use the same procedure to carry out keyword research while creating your next article.

Target Long Tail Keywords

Did you note one thing? In the last part of keyword research, I have mentioned that you have to create long tail keywords?

Yes, that is because if you produce a good long tail keyword with the keywords which are searched on Google. Then you will get a good amount of traffic to the article or post you publish.

But what are long tail keywords?

First, let us understand what are long tail keywords. They are the keywords which contain three or more phrases in them. And these keywords are very specific about what the people are actually searching on Google or any other internet search engine.

So let me give you an example of long tail keywords.

Assume that you are looking for new running shoes for you. And you specifically want to buy the shoes manufactured by Puma only.

Here you are specific about the thing you want to buy for you.

And you are also specific about the brand of your running shoes i.e. Puma. Then what will you search on Google? Note one thing and you want to buy the best that you can get for you.

You want to the best running shoes.

So your search will be something like “which are the best puma running shoes” right?

You will search like this and believe me other people who use the internet also think like the way you think. If you they want to buy new running shoes then they will search with the keywords similar like this only.

Check out the screenshot below.

Before I complete my search keyword Google is displaying the suggestion for me. Why is Google doing so? Because people are searching for similar keywords on Google.

You will good results if you target for long tail keywords on your website. This technique is used by many successful bloggers and internet marketers.

The competition for long tail keywords is less when compared to short keywords so you can easily increase website traffic. You can check out the graph below which is created by the Yoast.

Long Tail Keywords

When the competition is less you can easily get good ranks in search engines and thus it will increase website traffic.

I personally use long tail keywords in all the posts I create for my blogs and I am very happy with the results I have got till now.

When this can work for me, and other bloggers it will surely work for you too.

Use LSI Keywords in Your Content

Being a blogger or an internet marketer I am sure that you have heard or come across this term “LSI” or “Latent Semantic Index” using these keywords can also help you rank high in the search results of the search engines.

But what are these keywords and how can they help you? Let us discuss this deeper and know everything about these keywords.

What Are LSI Keywords?

LSI is the acronym used for the word Latent Systematic Index. Basically, these are the words which are related to the keyword on which you are focusing and want to rank high.

Google uses these keywords to understand your content after taking it to the index. It uses these keywords to understand what your content is all about.

For example, assume that you are writing about the apple fruit. And someone searches for the apple fruit then Google will show your result to them.

But if you have published about the Apple company then it shows up the result only when they are searching for the company.

How does Google manage to do so?

It does it with the help of LSI keywords, these keywords are logically attached to the content you are writing. The same logic is used by the Google and it delivers the results.

Sometimes the LSI keywords can also be the words with the same meaning or synonyms I can say.

How to Find these LSI Keywords?

Now we know about the LSI keywords and how Google uses it to understand your content. But how can you find these keywords?

Let me tell you how you can find these keywords while building content for your website.

There are a number of tools online which help us to find out these keywords. But after using many tools I have finally, found a working tool which you can find below.

The tool about which I was talking was

So let’s find out how to get LSI keywords now. Open and enter the keyword about which you are writing.

For example, I want to write about the best laptops so I will enter “best laptops” in the search bar. Clear the Captcha and hit on Generate.

Now the LSI keywords of the keyword which you entered will be displayed to you on the screen.

How to Use LSI Keywords?

I am mentioning this part because many people misunderstand and they use the LSI keywords as the target keyword or focus keyword. But LSI keywords are not meant for using as focus keywords. But you have to use these keywords within your content.

Never Keyword Stuff Your Content

We have discussed the keyword research, usage of long tail keywords and LSI keywords in the content. But it does not mean that you have to fill in all your content with the keywords.

If you do so then Google will just ignore your content and you will not get any ranks in the top 10 search results.

Are you getting confused about what actually keyword stuffing is?

If this is the case then let me explain you about the keyword stuffing and what are the disadvantages if you keyword stuff your content.

What is Keyword Stuffing?

“Keyword stuffing” refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in Google search results. Often these keywords appear in a list or group, or out of context (not as natural prose). Filling pages with keywords or numbers result in a negative user experience and can harm your site’s ranking. Focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and in context.

Some Examples of Keyword Stuffing:

  • Lists of phone numbers without substantial added value
  • Blocks of text listing cities and states a webpage is trying to rank for
  • Repeating the same words or phrases so often that it sounds unnatural, for example:

Facebook is a great place online where you can promote your brand and also get a good amount of traffic to your website.

If you have a Facebook page of your website with thousands of likes then you can automatically get traffic. All you have to do is periodically post about your latest articles or updates on your Facebook page.

Your Facebook fans will follow the link and will be landed on your website, if you build a good Facebook page then you can increase website traffic easily.

But you can get traffic from Facebook even if you don’t have many likes on your Facebook page.

You can get traffic to your website from Facebook by advertising there.

There are two ways to get targeted traffic to your website and they are by boosting your Facebook posts and by promoting your website.

Let me show you how you can promote your website and also boost your Facebook posts to get targeted traffic.

How to Boost Your Facebook Posts?

This is very simple you can boost your old Facebook posts as well as your new ones. To boost them, first of all, you have to open your Facebook page.

Select the post on your Facebook page which you would like to boost.

You will find a Boost Post button on your Facebook post, click on it.

After you click on Boost Post you have to select the audience to whom Facebook should show your post. You have to target them very carefully so that you get good results (likes, comments, shares) and traffic.

Select your total budget, and select the duration to which you would like to boost your post. Now Facebook will approve your boost and you will see your preferred audience reacting to your post.

How to Promote Your Website on Facebook?

You can also promote your website and drive targeted traffic to your website. To promote your website you have to visit the page which is associated with your website.

In the about section of your Facebook page, you will see Promote Website button.

Click on the Promote Website button.

Now you will be asked to enter your URL to which you want to get targeted traffic along with the text which should be showed to the audience.

You can drive traffic to your website’s homepage and also to any other page where you have your affiliate links etc.

Select your budget, create an audience for your promotion and finally promote it.

Speed Up Your Website, Bring Down the Loading Time

Website speed is a very important factor when it comes to getting traffic especially the organic traffic which you get from Google and other search engines.

Google considers the page speed as an important ranking factor so you have to speed up your website.

Sometimes even if you manage ranking high with a slow website which has high response time or loading time. Even then you will loose traffic.

Because most of the people leave your website before it completely loads up. People don’t want to wait for your website to load when they have many other websites listed by Google for the same query.

They just press the back button and select some other website from the search engine results page. In this case, you are losing website traffic.

So if you speed up your website then you will automatically increase website traffic.

Most of us bloggers and internet marketers use WordPress as the content management system. (CMS) And that is why I have mentioned few steps which can help you speed up your website.

But if you are using some other CMS like Drupal etc. You can search speed tips on Google.

Install Lazy Load Plugin

We insert many images in our post content to make it more informative. But you should know one thing and that is every image counts in the total size of your web page.

When your visitor opens your website, then all the images are loaded at once along with your site content. And if you are using Google AdSense or any other platform to monetize your website, even those ads are loaded at once.

This makes your website slow.

But there is a simple solution for this and you can avoid this issue on your WordPress website.

And that is by installing Lazy Load plugin on your WordPress website. If you don’t know how you can install plugins on WordPress website then follow this link to read the guide.

But how lazy load works?

When you install lazy load on your WordPress website the images which you have inserted in your content will load only when they are visible to your visitor. So this will help you to increase website traffic by loading your website faster.

For example, if you have added few images which are in the middle of your content. And he or she is reading the starting part of your content then the images will not be loaded at that movement.

But once your visitor scrolls to the middle of your content the images will be loaded. This helps you bring down the time taken to load your website.

Install Cache Plugin On Your WordPress Website

Lazy load works to improve your website’s speed but it can’t help you alone you can increase website traffic and user experience by using cache plugins.

There are a number of cache plugins which are available in WordPress plugin inventory. Some of them are listed below.

  • WP Super Cache
  • WP Rocket
  • And W3 Total Cache

Install any one of these and get them configured. You can check the results by using GTmetrix and Pingdom Tools.

Get Responsive Theme and Increase Website Traffic

Google likes those websites which provide a good user interface to the visitor and these days most of the people use the internet and search for information online using smartphones.

I am sure you have noticed that because most of the website traffic we get is from the mobile devices. (Smartphone and Tablets)

So you should get a responsive theme that is easier to navigate for your visitors who are using your website on smartphones and tablets.

What are Responsive Themes?

If you want to know more about the responsive theme and what they are actually them let me tell you about it. The themes which automatically adapt the size of the screen of the device are basically called as responsive themes.

I would like to show you an example. As you can see in the image which is embedded below. The website is opened in a desktop computer, smartphone, and a tablet.

In all three devices, you can see that the theme as adapted the screen size of the device. These kinds of themes are called as responsive themes.

How to check if your current theme is responsive and mobile friendly?

If you are confused about this thing and want to know if your current theme which you are using is mobile friendly or not. You can check it using the Mobile-Friendly Test Tool. You can use the link provided here to open the tool.

Once you open the tool you have to enter the URL of your website in the space provided on the web page. Enter your URL and hit Run Test button.

If your website theme is responsive and mobile friendly you can see it on your screen. But if your website’s current theme is not responsive then switch to a responsive one. By doing so you can considerably increase website traffic.

Work On Your Content Title

You can increase website traffic to your website by working on your content tag. Here by the word title, I am talking about the <h1> tag which is displayed to people on Google.

If the title of your content stands out it is quite obvious that people will click on it and you will get traffic to your website.

Your content will likely get more clicks if your title is attractive even if you are not ranking at number one on Google search engine results page.

But how can you create some of the awesome titles for your content? If you have got this question in your mind then let me clear it for you.

There are many tools and websites online which will help you to create attractive titles for the content you create for your website.

I will share the tool I use to create the catchy title for the content I create for my websites. I use the Title Generator by SEOPressor.

It is quite easy to use this tool, all you have to do is enter your keyword and describe what your keyword is all about. This tool will generate few titles accordingly and will display to you.

How to Generate Catchy Titles?

Open the title generator tool by SEOPressor and enter the keyword about which you want to write on your website. Like in my case I am going to write about Android on one of my websites.

So I will enter Android in the keyword section and describe it as a generic term. And finally, click on Generate Titles button.

Wait for few seconds and the tool will generate titles for you select any one of those and create content for your next content.

Interlink Your Content

Have you ever noticed that many bloggers and internet marketers interlink their content a lot? If you have noticed that then let me tell you why they do so.

But before I tell you about the reason why you should interlink let me explain to you what actually interlinking your content means.

What is Interlinking?

If we brainstorm the name itself we get a clear image about this stuff and it is linking your content within your content.

For example, assume that you have written an article “10 Amazing Things About Taj Mahal” and after few days you are writing any article on your website which is about Taj Mahal itself.

Then you can interlink your second article with the first article that you have already published on your website. You can even link your second article from the first article as well.

Some people online think that you link to article 1 to article 2 and article 2 to article 1. You will be penalized by Google, this is not true and you can interlink as much as you want.

But while you interlink your content don’t just link it everywhere. Before you add any link think if that link is beneficial to your reader.

If that link is not useful for your reader then you better don’t interlink that as it can even hurt your search engine rankings.

In most of the cases interlinking to irrelevant cases does not directly hurt to your rankings but still, it harms your ranks.

How to Find if the Content is irrelevant?

After reading the last line if you have this question in your mind. Then here is the answer to your question. Let us take the previous example of Taj Mahal only.

Article 1: 10 Amazing Things About Taj Mahal

Article 2: How to Uninstall System Apps in Samsung Galaxy S8?

Now assume that you have published two above mentioned articles on your website in the same order given. If you link your first article which is about Taj Mahal from your second article about Samsung Galaxy S8.

Then it can be said as irrelevant interlinking. Because there is a huge gap between Taj Mahal and the Samsung Galaxy S8. Both the things are completely different from each other. You can give a try to interlinking your content it can help you increase website traffic you get.

Stick to Your Website’s Topic

You may be thinking now what is this? How can you stick to one topic? Let me make it more clear for you to understand.

What I mean by “Stick to Your Website’s Topic” is you should not go off-topic anytime on your website. Build only relevant content on your website about the topic on which you have created the website.

If you have a website which is based on Android topic then don’t post about Laptops and Desktop computers on it.

If you keep posting the articles which are completely related to Android itself then you will huge boost in your rankings.

I have personally experienced this on one of my websites. I have a website in which I use to post about Cars and Bikes which was running quite good.

And after few days I started losing interest in the topics about cars and bikes. So I started posting about banking and finance on the same domain.

The domain name, however, was not a brandable one to Cars and Bikes only.

But what happened next is the banking and finance related articles never ranked. Even after publishing them for 1 month I received no traffic to those articles.

So I decided to go with the topic on which I use to write on that website.

I published few articles about cars and bikes for the next seven days and those articles ranked on Google.

This is why I recommend you to go with the same topic that you have chosen for your website. And believe me if you create related content for your website then you can easily increase website traffic.

Build Backlinks to Your Content – Really Helps to Increase Website Traffic

This is no more a secret that the backlinks play a very important role when it comes to website traffic. The content which has some genuine and related backlinks ranks really high on Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

If you want to know the main formula to rank your website high and increase website traffic then find it below.

Quality Content + Better User Experience (Navigation) + Backlinks = High Website Traffic

I have experienced this formula working many times of my websites. I build some very lengthy content with high value to my readers.

I check that the user experience on my websites is good and finally, build some backlinks. After few days normally 7 to 10 days, the content starts to rank slowly.

You have to build the links to your content but how can you do so? I will tell you some ways by which you can generate good backlinks for your website.

Broken Link Building Technique

You may have read about this technique to build links on many other websites as well. And this technique works fine for many people including me, I have built many links for my websites using this technique.

In this technique, you have to find out other websites in your niche and look for the broken link on those websites. Like if any other website in your niche has linked out to some other website which is down or the link is not found.

Then you have to contact the administrator of that website and inform him or her about that broken link. Within that email, you can mention the link to your website where you have published the related content.

You can find the sample mail below, you can use this template.

Hi I am Akash Navi,

I often read your website and every time I do so I love the content you publish on your website.

But while I was reading an article on your website I found that you have a broken link.

The Article is:

I have published related content on my website which can add more value for your readers.

If you wish you can link to

Warm Regards,

Akash Navi

But you have to keep one thing in your mind and that is. This technique works but you will not get one link for each email you send.

Some webmasters or website administrators remove the broken link and they will not link to your content. But I have seen 20% success with the email I send.

Even the 20% success I get with these emails can fetch me good high-authority links and helps me increase website traffic.

Now the real question here is how can you find the links that are broken on other websites?

There are many websites online which will help you to find out the links which are broken on other sites in your niche. But those websites take hours of time to find the broken links.

We can’t spend hours and hours of time in front of our laptop or computer just to find out the links which are broken. Because the success rate is not 100%

But don’t worry I have a handy method with me which will help you to find the broken links in your niche within few minutes.

And that is with the help of I am sure you have heard about the Ahrefs tool. If you don’t know about this tool then I will tell you about it.

It is a website basically, which will help you to find out the backlinks to any website’s homepage or inner page. Along with the backlinks, you can check the keyword it ranks for, internal links and much more.

I will show you how you can get the list of broken links on the websites of your niche. This is a paid tool but you can check few things for free.

The first thing you have to do is open and get a free account if you don’t have one. If you already have an Ahrefs account then just sign in with it.

You will be taken to Ahrefs Dashboard as soon as you sign in. Now you have to enter the website of your niche in which you want to find the broken links.

Please Note: By following the above steps you will find the backlinks which are pointing to the website in your niche. But are broken, which means the content is not present on the website.

After entering the domain name click on Search icon which you can find on the page.

Now all the broken backlinks which are pointing to the website in your niche will be displayed to you. Just filter them and check the dofollow links only.

What next? Contact then administrators of the website and tell them that they have the broken links. This is how you can use the broken link opportunities to increase website traffic.

Guest Post on Other Websites to Get Backlinks

This is my all time favorite method to build backlinks for my websites. If you are thinking why I love to build links by publishing a guest post on other websites.

Then let me tell you why.

Whenever you guest post on other websites the first thing happens is you will get exposure. The author exposure is very important to become an influencer in your niche.

So whenever you get an opportunity to guest post on other websites don’t let it go. Create an awesome content and get it published.

By doing so you will get more exposure, and you will get backlinks to your website. Most of the time when we publish a guest post on other websites we love to get do follow backlinks.

Because do follow backlinks have greater weight when it comes to rank high in Google and other search engines.

But you should keep one thing in your mind is for excellent results you should guest post on the website in your niche. If you run an android related website and publish a guest post on blogging niche website then you may not see any big improvement in ranks.

Along with exposure and backlinks, you will get referral traffic too. We have already discussed what referral traffic is at the beginning part of this guide.

By publishing guest posts on other websites you can increase website traffic within a short period of time. So find the websites which are of your niche and mail the administrator.

Stay Away of Spammy Backlinks and Increase Website Traffic

After reading the above line you may be thinking why Akash is giving double statements? Actually no, I am not giving double statements by saying to stay away of backlinks.

Because the backlinks from which I am telling you to stay away from are Spammy Backlinks. If you have ever built backlinks for your website.

Then let me tell you that you those spammy backlinks are affecting the organic traffic your website is getting. If you have not built a single spammy backlink to your website then you are on the safe side.

Now the real question here is which backlinks are spammy links? How to check if you have spammy links? The answer is mentioned in the further part of this guide.

What are Spam Links?

Spam links are those links which are built aggressively by commenting on other websites. The bad backlinks, or low-quality backlinks, is a topic that is often mentioned in the intake form of our reviews. Websites that have made the mistake of hiring some shady SEO company to buy bad backlinks for their website and have lost almost all their rankings often turn to us for a proper analysis of the drop.

So now you know what are spammy backlinks. If you have this kind of backlinks for your website then you should disavow them as soon as possible in the Google Search Console.

If you disavow these spammy or bad backlinks then you can considerably increase website traffic you are getting currently.

That’s it guys this is how you can increase website traffic. I hope you are clear with all the information mentioned in this guide. If you have any kind of doubts you can leave your comment below.
