Moz Domain Authority: Does It Help You Rank High?

Written by Akash Navi

Search traffic is the most important thing behind every blogger and internet marketers run. And it is quite obvious because we need search traffic or organic traffic to stay alive online.

Tell me one thing, why do you blog or run a website?

To make money online right? Yes, most of us run websites and blogs to make money online.

If someone wants to make money by their website the most important thing they need is traffic. The more traffic they have the more amount of money the make.

I am not telling that someone can make money with the help of Organic traffic only.

There are many websites online which are making thousands of dollars every month with the help of social traffic.

Social traffic is the traffic which comes to a website from sources like Facebook Twitter, Pinterest etc. Some viral content websites are making a huge amount of money with the help of this social traffic.

But not everyone runs a viral website and not all the websites can be successful by just getting social traffic. There are a number of aspects which are considered by Google to provide ranks to websites.

You can read about 200 Ranking Factors of Google published on Backlinko.Com by Brain Dean. Backlinks hold a very prominent place when it comes to these ranking factors of Google.

If your website has a good amount of NATURAL backlinks then there is no doubt that you will get a good amount of organic traffic by ranking high.

Even Moz Domain Authority depends on the backlinks which are pointing to your website. There are some other factors too which are considered by Moz to provide you domain authority.

But if you look at the results of any website in the Open Site Explorer of Moz then you can see that the most highlighted thing which you can see is “Inbound Links”.

The question here is Does Moz Domain Authority help you rank high?

Or it even relates to Google’s search rankings?

In this article of mine, I will tell you about this. I have poured in all my opinions about the relation of Moz Domain authority and Google search ranks in this article.

Should You Focus on Moz Domain Authority? Will It Help You Rank High?

Moz Domain Authority

The first thing we all should understand is is a different company and Google Inc. is a different company. There is no relation between these two companies.

And when it comes to the word domain authority this is primarily created by and not Google Inc.

The company which updates these metrics i.e. Domain Authority, Page Authority etc. is Moz.

To provide ranks in SERP Google has a secret algorithm which no one online knows. We can just assume the things and can’t say that  100% Google uses these things to provide ranks.

My Answer to Does Moz Domain Authority Helps Us Rank High?

It’s a big No, it does not mean that any website if it has high Domain Authority and will rank very high. And believe me when you check any website’s domain authority on Open Site Explorer you don’t get exact results.

Here I want to make one thing clear and that is I am not opposing these metrics which are given by

But in fact, I am expressing my opinion about Moz’s Domain Authority.

I will provide you a practical example why I gave my statement that “You don’t get the exact DA of any website on OSE”.

Let us see what says about their Domain Authority.

Domain Authority (DA) is a score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERP). Domain Authority scores range from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank.

We calculate Domain Authority combining many of our other link metrics — linking root domains, a number of total links, MozRank, MozTrust, etc. — into a single DA score. This score can then be used when comparing one site to another or tracking the “ranking strength” of a website over time.

To help Domain Authority calculations approximate actual ranking positions, we employ machine learning against Google’s algorithm to best model how their search engine results are generated.

Now Let Me Provide You a Practical Example.

I will check Domain Authority of a website and will share the same screenshot with you.

First I will check the number of domains which are pointing to my website in Google Search Console. That is I will check the backlinks in Google Search Console.

Check out the number of domains pointing to my website according to Google Search Console below.

Backlinks in Google Search Console

So as you can see the number of domains pointing to my website is 293. Now let us check the domain authority of this website in Open Site Explorer of

Backlinks in Moz Open Site Explorer

And the results are in front of you.

The Domain Authority is 16

The Page Authority is 17

I seriously don’t want to comment on these two metrics.

Thinking why? Because it’s calculation of

But wait, only 1 root domains? Seriously! I can’t believe this thing.

Now let me tell you what says about the Root Domains.

What are Root Domains?

They have mentioned that the number of unique root domains containing at least one linking page to this URL.

The results are in front of you, and you are the judge here.

Now tell me one thing, do you still think Moz Domain Authority should be considered? Tell me your opinion in the comment section below.

My Opinion About Moz Domain Authority.

Many people think that if any website has high domain authority according to Moz then it will rank high. But no nothing will happen if someone has high DA.

If you are planning to set your complete focus on improving your domain authority then I am sorry to say but you are simply wasting your time.

Don’t worry about these metrics (DA and PA) just create content which has amazing value to your reader. Such articles with really high value to the reader will automatically attract backlinks. (Natural Backlinks)

And when you have Amazing High-Value Content + Natural Backlinks you will outrank all your competitors. Even if your DA and PA is 0.

So finally, I can conclude that you can’t rank high in Google search results by improving your Moz Domain Authority and Page Authority. Just focus on creating high-quality content and keep it going.
