When you start a blog and install WordPress you will get many pre packed features with the installation. You can design and develop a very good website with the help of WordPress.
Generally, WordPress is used by those people who want to start a blog and want to share the knowledge with the whole world.
Not only the bloggers but even some of the companies and non-profit organizations are using WordPress to run their website.
When you create the content on your WordPress website you have to categorize them so that it will be easy to navigate through your website.
And to group or categorize the content we have two things in WordPress and they are tags and categories. By default when you install WordPress on any website we get a category and that is the Uncategorized category.
What is Uncategorized Category in WordPress?
Before we proceed to the further part of this guide let us know what exactly the uncategorized category in WordPress is.
By design in WordPress, you have to assign at least one category. The category value of your content or post can’t be zero or empty.
Even if you don’t assign any category while publishing the post it will automatically select the uncategorized category. Even tags are a kind of taxonomy we get but they are not mandatory to add.
You can even change the default post category in WordPress, in the last guide I have discussed its steps.
Steps to Rename the Uncategorized Category
It is very simple to rename the uncategorized category on your WordPress website. The first thing you have to do is go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories.
You will get a list of all the categories that you have created on your blog or website.
Now you have to scroll and find the Uncategorized Category and click on the edit link mentioned just below the name of the category.
Once you click on Edit section you will be taken to the editing section of the category.
Enter the name which you would like to have for your current uncategorized category. After that enter a slug for this and finally click on the Save Changes button which you can find at the bottom of the page.
This is all you have to do to rename the Uncategorized category in WordPress. But please note that when you change the slug of the category the URL will be changed too.
To avoid the broken link issue you have to redirect the old category URL to the new one. Renaming the category is just like changing the URL of the published post. And for this, the 301 Redirects can help you.
I hope you are clear with all the information mentioned in this guide. But in case of any kind of doubts or questions feel free to comment down below.
