Godaddy is one of the biggest registrar in the world with them you can register domain name, buy web hosting, buy SSL certificates they provide almost everything which we need to maintain and run a website. Many people suggest to be with Godaddy or buy services from Godaddy. But I have heard people telling that, the server uptime of Godaddy is not that good. Their servers go down often.
Even I have faced this issue with my websites which are using Godaddy web hosting service. I have seen they were down often, this was about Godaddy’s Hosting services.
When we register a domain name with any of the registrar online we have complete authorization on your domain name. You can delete your domain name and also transfer your domain away from Godaddy as well. In this article of mine I will be telling you the procedure which you need to follow to take your domain name away from them and associate your domain with some other domain registrar.
Things to remember before transferring domain:
When you transfer your domain name from one registrar to another you should keep few things in your mind and they are:
- Your domain name should be at least 60 days old to get it transferred from Godaddy to other registrar. If you don’t remember your Domains age you can check domain age using this link.
- Your domain name should be in Unlocked status.
- Your contact information of your domain should be up to date.
- Normally transfer will take 5 to 7 days in normal circumstances.

Unlocking your domain name with Godaddy.
When you register your domain name with any of the registrar online your domain’s status will be locked. Which means that name can’t be transferred to any other registrar.

Getting Transfer Authorization code from Godaddy.
Now when you successfully unlock your domain, you need to get one Transfer Authorization code from Godaddy. This code you need to provide to your new registrar. Without this code the transfer process can’t be started.

Providing Transfer Authorization code to your new registrar.
When you ask Godaddy your authorization code they will mail you the code to your registered email address. Only in case your domain name is more than 60 days old.
Now contact your new Registrar they will ask your for the domain details and the authorization code. Provide them all the details they ask you.
The transfer process will now be started wait for 5 to 7 days. And after the transfer process gets completed your will receive a mail from new registrar.
