How to Unlock Domain Name in Godaddy?

When you register a domain name with Godaddy or any of the Domain name registrar which is online, you have complete authorization on your domain name. You can delete your domain name, you can transfer your domain name etc. If you are willing to transfer your domain name to other registrar, the very first thing you need to do is unlocking your domain name in your current registrar which is Godaddy where you have registered your domain name. I will tell you what exactly this domain lock does and how it is important to you.

What is Domain Lock and What it does?

When you register a domain with any of the domain name registrar, they will lock the domain name by default. Which means once you register that domain name no one can register it with any other registrar. In simple words it locks your domain which will prevent unauthorised domain name transfers. It’s important security feature, almost all the registrars provide this security features for free. Which means you will not be asked anything extra to enable or lock your domain.

How to Unlock Domain Name in Godaddy?

To unlock your domain name in Godaddy you need to first of all login into your account. Visit Godaddy website enter your username and password and login into your Godaddy account.

Click on Domain settings

Open My Account section of the website where you will find all the services or products I can say which you have purchased from them. Select Domains from there after that a list will appear in front of you in which all the domains you have registered will be displayed to you. Select the domain which you want unlock and click on Domain settings.

All the domain settings of the selected domains will be displayed to you. Scroll down and look for additional settings there. In that section you will find Domain lock, by default it will be on. To unlock it click on edit refer the picture embedded below.

When you click on Edit, you will find a toggle button just like the one we get in iOS devices. Toggle that button to unlock your domain name.

Once you toggle that button, your domain lock will be removed. (Unlocked) Now you can transfer your domain name to any of the Domain name registrar which is operating in any country worldwide.
